FIRST FIVE STAR HOTEL IN LOMBOK

p46a.jpg (15948 bytes)Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort has recently been accredited a five star rating by the Department of Tourism, Arts and Culture, making it Lombok’s first five star resort. The hotel consists of 156 room, suites and villas and since the recent completion of its refurbishment now boasts a blend of international ambience with local contemporary culture in its rich woodwork and exhibits of a wide selection of local arts and handicrafts. "This is due to everyone’s unwavering commitment to deliver service excellence and exceeding the guests’ expectations," said Shane Cunning, The Resort’s GM. "Lombok’s tourism is growing and we believe this accreditation will enhance the image of Lombok in both national and international tourism." Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort commands a prime position only 20 minutes away from the airport. Tel. (0361) 771 906.

FAST BOAT LOMBOK-BALI

p46b.jpg (16441 bytes)In an attempt to keep abreast of the increase in the numbers of tourist arrivals on Lombok, the newly launched fast boat known as Kancana offers visitors a mode of transport to the island that is an alternative to the (ever delayed) Merpati flights, the Mabua Express or the four hour strait crossing from Padangbai. The 117-seat Kancana operates daily shuttles between Bali and Lombok, departing from Benoa at 7.30pm and from Lembar at 5.30pm. The voyage takes 2 and a half hours. Tel. (0370) 636 835 (Magnum van Pariwisata in Lombok) or (0361) 285 771 (Panorama Tours in Bali).

OLD WARUNG, NEW FACE

p47a.jpg (20688 bytes)One of Senggigi’s most popular restaurants, the beachfront Warung Lino, established in 1993, has recently undergone renovations. The interior of the restaurant has been completely transformed, and Warung Lino now boasts a classical design with tropical nuances drawing on traditional Sasak architectural principles from Lombok. Located directly in front of the Sheraton Intan Laguna, Senggigi Beach Hotel and Pasar Seni Senggigi, Warung Lino’s grills and seafood is not to be missed. For reservations call (0370) 693 162.

LOMBOK ADVENTURE TOURS

p47b.jpg (13519 bytes)Are you bored with lazing around on Senggigi Beach? Well, you no longer need be, for now the beach is now complete with a newly established and yet highly professional adventure company, offering visitors the opportunity to get some action with a diversity of beach activities including horse riding, jetskiiing, waterskiing, cruising the island, windsurfing or traditional spa on the beach.
