Mandalika Hill
is the name of the hill just in front of Novotel Lombok Beach,
which holds a special place in the hearts of the Lombok people
because of the Putri Nyale Folklore. The hill itself can be reached
in 5 minutes on foot by crossing the sea when it is low tide or
15 minutes by car during high tide. Twice a week, they set up
a light breakfast on the hill, from which you will have a spectacular
view of the vista of the open sea and surroundings. And during
your time there, Coralia staff will entertain you with the legendary
story of Putri Nyale. To join this programmed, kindly place your
reservation one night before, and early in the morning they will

Visit
Of Ms Rotterdam Cruise

In relation to
the negative reporting on Lombok that spread outside of Indonesia,
this visit of MS Rotterdam Cruise's passengers on the 5 March
2001 was an answer that Lombok has fully recovered. The Cruise
anchored at Lembar Harbour with 500 passengers to visit Lombok.
The passengers visited some tourist objects in Lombok such as
the south of Lombok for Traditional
Sasak Tour, and the temples of Mayura, Lingsar and Narmada. After
the tour, some of them had lunch at Jayakarta Hotel Lombok. They
commented that it's not enough to have a short trip to Lombok,
it should be at least 2 or 3 nights stay.

Masyarakat Peduli Pariwisata Senggigi (MPPS)

Masyarakat Peduli Pariwisata
Senggigi, or Caring for Senggigi Tourism Society, is an organization
which was established by people of Mangsit, Kerandangan, Senggigi,
and Batu Bolong Village to, anticipate negative impact of tourism
development in Senggigi area and to educate the children in the
Senggigi area. Amongst IVIPPS programmed that was already being
conducted since June 2000 by involving 100 local people was to clean
up the beach from the Art Market to Senggigi Beach every Friday
for two months. Also cleaning up the main road from in front of
Sheraton Hotel. Three volunteers have been working for daily cleaning
since last
August until now. As a moral support for the local government, MPPS
also invited journalists to this tourism recovery project on 2 February
2001 as well ( as members of Asita, PHRI and owners of art shops,
village head of Senggigi, the local police, and head of Lombok Tourism
Department to improve the condition of the island of Lombok and
to counter ungrounded negative news reports in the mass media. MPPS'
next programmed will be to propose to the village
head of Batu Bolong to start dealing professionally with the hotel
and restaurant rubbish problems in the area. |
